Chandrabhaga Beach is 33–38 km from Puri city centre via the Puri–Konark Marine Drive. Travel time by taxi is 60–75 minutes under normal traffic conditions.

The two names are often used interchangeably. Chandrabhaga is a specific stretch of coastline 3 km from the Konark Sun Temple, at the former confluence of the Chandrabhaga River and the Bay of Bengal. "Konark Beach" refers loosely to the same general area.

Chandrabhaga is famous for three distinct reasons: it was India's first Blue Flag certified beach (2018); it is the site of the annual Magha Saptami solar festival drawing hundreds of thousands of pilgrims; and it sits 3 km from the UNESCO-listed Konark Sun Temple.

No. Swimming is prohibited and strongly inadvisable due to a sharp underwater shelf and powerful undercurrents. The beach is safe for walking, photography, and sunrise viewing. For swimming, Ramchandi Beach nearby offers calmer conditions at the river-sea confluence.

October to February. The weather is comfortable (16°C–27°C), skies are clear for sunrise, and all major events — the International Sand Art Festival (December 1–5), Konark Dance Festival (December 1–5), and Magha Saptami (January–February) — fall within this window.

Magha Saptami (also called Chandrabhaga Mela) is an annual solar worship festival held on the seventh day of the bright fortnight of the lunar month of Magha — typically late January or early February. Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims gather before dawn for a holy dip in the remnants of the Chandrabhaga River, followed by prayers to the rising sun.

From Bhubaneswar Airport or city centre, the distance is 65–83 km — approximately 1.5–2 hours by taxi via NH-316. The route passes through Pipli (Odisha's appliqué craft village) before connecting to the Puri–Konark Marine Drive. PuriTaxi.in offers direct airport-to-Chandrabhaga transfers.

Chandrabhaga Beach itself has no entry fee. The Konark Sun Temple charges ₹40 for Indian citizens and ₹600 for foreign nationals. The Balukhand–Konark Wildlife Sanctuary charges ₹30–₹90 per person for nature walks and safaris.

The Blue Flag is an international eco-label awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), Denmark, to beaches meeting 33 strict criteria across water quality, environmental management, safety, and accessibility. Chandrabhaga became India's first Blue Flag beach in 2018 and has maintained the certification every year since.

The beach is not recommended for night visits. The Marine Drive has limited lighting in sections, the beach has minimal lighting, and strong undercurrents make proximity to the waterline dangerous in darkness. Visit at or after dawn, and return before sunset.
